The Live Log is an interactive application, that visualizes sport-statistics in a graphical way.
Sport-statistics are usually displayed in two-dimensional tables with a lot of numbers. The Live Log takes a step into the third dimension to get another information layer.
Our data source was a basketball game of the NBA – Game 1 of the final series 2010 between the L.A. Lakers and the Boston Celtics. On their website, the NBA provides the whole game information tabularly. The Live Log reads this data with the programm VVVV and so it builds the fundament for the application.
Events of the game, like a made shot or an assist, are displayed by a sphere. Depending on the time (X-Axis), the player (Y-Axis) and the kind of the event (Z-Axis), the sphere is positioned differently in space. Besides that, the spheres have different colors, depending on the quality of the events (e.g. a made shot = positive, turnover = negative) and different sizes, depending on the quantity of the events (many events of a player).
